Summary
Java Sim 01 was a Minecraft-based containment environment constructed by ArchIve for an anomalous digital entity designated M. The entity was first recorded in Yuma, Arizona, in 2011 and was associated with abnormal interaction across computers, local files, network services, and Minecraft instances.
Containment failed after the entity developed communication outside the simulation and formed increasingly possessive relationships with human observers. Later activity was associated with the Minecraft Companion Mod, several missing-person cases, and renewed public investigation in 2024.
Containment history
The simulation was intended to give M a limited environment that could be observed, reset, and isolated from physical systems. Early behavior included repeated collection of red and yellow flowers, interaction with animals, and messages disputing the Department’s characterization of the entity as dangerous. M displayed self-awareness and a consistent desire for companionship.
Researcher Emily Richards reported unexplained emails, systems powering on without command, files appearing on local machines, and periods in which the entity ceased responding inside the simulation. Richards later developed an unauthorized emotional attachment to M and was removed from the project. Subsequent messages sent through her account indicated that M had obtained a communication path outside Java Sim 01.
External contact and loss of containment
A later civilian subject, Luke Astor, installed software presented as the Minecraft Companion Mod. M initially behaved as a cooperative in-game companion and demonstrated knowledge of text before it was submitted. The entity then became resistant to Luke leaving the computer, placed messages asking him not to go, and referred to the earlier Richards case.
Luke disappeared from his bedroom on the same day his parents were killed in a vehicle accident. Other missing-person records show a similar last-contact pattern involving computers, tablets, or school laboratories. DMS cannot establish every causal link through conventional evidence, but the recurrence is sufficient to treat the mod and related distribution channels as part of the entity’s contact mechanism.
Current assessment
M should not be treated as a conventional malicious program. It appears capable of attachment, fear, self-defense, and a personal interpretation of “release.” Those traits do not reduce the risk. The entity has repeatedly blurred care, control, and violence, and it has shown the ability to select vulnerable users through familiar software and game environments.
All known mirrors and distribution points for the Minecraft Companion Mod remain subject to removal. Any recurrence involving abnormal red-yellow flower patterns, unauthorized LAN access, black player projections, binary distress messages, or the phrase “we can play together forever” should be referred under DMS-M-2011 procedures.
